Langtang Valley Trekking
The Lang Tang region has a variety of trekking routes, and has the advantage that it is the nearest area to Kathmandu, lying directly to the north. Home to the Tamang ethnic group, with their Tibetan culture, it was a refuge for those who came over the border. The higher pastures are yak filled during the summer. Gosainkund is a very important pilgrimage centre, and on the day of the full moon in the monsoon season, thousands of devotees make their way to the sacred lakes.
The area is justly popular with trekkers and some routes are feasible also in winter, if free from snowfall. A number of short treks can be undertaken, and routes can be combined. The Helambu region is home to the Sherpa culture with a number of picturesque villages.
